 The City of Norfolk has two animal shelters located in close proximity to the Norfolk Industrial Park and Military Circle Mall.
Norfolk Animal Management is a division of the Norfolk Police and is tasked with picking up stray animals, handling animal-related complaints such as aggressive animals, animal cruelty complaints or other animal-related criminal activity.
The Norfolk SPCA is a humane society that provides humane education, animal behavior assistance and animal education.
The Norfolk SPCA also has a low-cost clinic that provides such services as immunization spay and neuter surgeries, pet microchipping and other animal wellness services to any pet owner with no minimum income requirements for this service.
The Norfolk Animal Management Center is the only agency that receives lost, found or stray animals and are the lead agency in this city for animal protection services.
Norfolk Animal Management and the Norfolk SPCA receives owner-relinquished animals and have pets available for adoption for reasonable fees.
What to Do For a Lost or Found Pet
If you have lost or happen to find a lost/stray/abandoned pet in Norfolk, please use these links to inform Norfolk Animal Management and the Norfolk SPCA.
If you have lost your pet, simply making a report does not mean that you should not continue your search and visit other area shelters on a regular basis.
Remember, Virginia law requires an animal turned in or recovered
by Animal Control be help for only five days if there is no type of identification such as a collar, and only ten days if the animal has a collar.
