The peninsula section of Hampton Roads is served by the Peninsula SPCA, located at 523 J. Clyde Morris Blvd, Newport News, Virginia.
The Peninsula SPCA shelters stray animals found in the Newport News, Hampton, York County, and Poquoson municipalities.

The SPCA will contact the owners of pets wearing identification or having a microchip and charge an impoundment fee before the pet can be retrieved. All uninjured strays will be held for 5 days (as required by law) before the animal becomes available for adoption or is euthanized.

Injured strays will be evaluated and severely injured animals will be taken immediately to a veterinarian. If the veterinarian deems the animal's injuries to be life threatening or to be causing severe suffering to the animal, the animal will be humanely euthanized.

The Peninsula SPCA has many wonderful pets available for adoption and is the only animal shelter in Hampton Roads with it's own Petting Zoo!

What To Do For a Lost or Found Pet

If you have lost or happen to find a lost/stray/abandoned pet on the peninsula, please use these links to inform the Peninsula Animal Control agencies and the Peninsula SPCA.
If you have lost your pet, simply making a report does not mean that you should not continue your search.
Please visit the Peninsula SPCA and other area shelters on a regular basis.
Remember, Virginia law requires an animal turned in or recovered by Animal Control be help for only five days if there is no type of identification such as a collar, and only ten days if the animal has a collar.
Your lost pet is counting on you!
